Technology has never played a bigger part in operating a successful financial advice firm, but it’s important to get the full benefits out of every £1 you spend on technology.

We have now launched a service that provides advisers with an independent analysis of your technology adoption and governance benchmarked against with over 2,300 individual advisers and over £120 billion assets under advice.

When we originally designed the service at the end of 2025, we intended it to provide three things:

  • A comparison of your tech use, relative to other advice firms.
  • Recommendations on ways to improve the return on investment you achieve from technology spend.
  • Areas where you might improve data security or compliance processes.

Having looked at what we can do with the data, this has grown from a short comparison to an 18-page analysis report built entirely from your own answers.

The report now provides:

  • Where you stand. Your position across all 205 firms that took part, and separately against firms of your size, in 12 technology areas and 6 areas of governance and stewardship.
  • Your plans, played back. The priorities, challenges and budget answers you gave us, in your own words, so you can judge how well our suggestions line up with what you already intended.
  • Guidance on every open area. What you told us, what other firms already do, and the question worth asking your supplier.
  • Better returns before new spend. Most gaps we found can be closed with tools firms already pay for, so the plan starts with what you own, not what you could buy.
  • Data security and compliance. A dedicated governance section covering cyber security, data protection, Consumer Duty and your compliance processes, benchmarked like everything else.
  • A plan on a page. Three steps, one a month, each a single question you already have the right to ask. None of it commits you to new spend.
  • A report that stays current. When you have acted on the plan, update your survey entry and we will send you a refreshed report within the week.

How are we able to provide this for free?

Wherever we can we like to provide services to advisers without charge. We can do this on the understanding that you allow us to share these reports with other organisations who will find the data and analysis useful.

Consequently, by completing the survey you are giving us consent to our sharing the data and report with technology providers, platforms and any other organisations who can use it to better assist you.
